Qualifications:
The Riversong Lodge motives are - work hard and have fun! You should possess a strong work ethic; have great people skills and a sparkling personality. Love of the great outdoors and the challenges of a remote environment is a plus. Employees must be able to handle long hours, be friendly to our guests, and be willing to pitch in on various Lodge chores. We are looking for team players that want to make friendships that could last a lifetime.
We expect our staff to be punctual, take pride in their appearance, be energetic, enthusiastic, and display a respect and care for each other, our property and our policies.
Dress code is casual. (Example: jeans, nice T-shirt, sweater shirt, sweatshirt/fleece, tennis shoes, comfortable shoes)
All Riversong Lodge employees undergo a complete orientation at the beginning of the season. An employee manual is located on site stating the rules and regulations we require to operate successfully during the season. Some of our rules are strict and are stringently enforced, as is our no-drugs policy. We want all employees to have a positive experience at the lodge and your stay to be as comfortable and fun as possible.
Housing/Meals: We provide employee housing in either a weatherport (a rigid wall tent-like structure that sits on a platform raised off the ground) or in a separate staff building. Two same sex employees per room/weatherport. A separate shower facility is provided with his and hers sections and private showers and toilets. Employee meals are served at regularly scheduled mealtimes in the staff dining room. All meals are prepared by Riversong’s outstanding chefs.
Compensation: All employees are offered a monthly salary that is calculated on an hourly wage in compliance with State of Alaska labor laws. Normal working hours are 10 hour days six days a week. All employees will receive overtime pay depending on days worked. Employee pay also includes room and board.
Transportation: Riversong Lodge is a remote fishing lodge which requires employees to take a 40 minute float plane flight from Anchorage to our lodge. We provide your airfare when first arriving at Riversong to begin the season and at the end of the summer back to Anchorage. Employees will need to make their own arrangements arriving to and departing from Alaska. We can recommend some transportation means.
Anchorage Office Manager: (1) Communication and coordination skills are a must. You will be responsible for the following:
- coordinate with lodge (guests arriving/departing, new guests)
- coordination with air taxi service/scheduling air taxi flights
- computer knowledge - internet, MS Word, Excel
- invoicing, minimal accounting skills
- answering the phone,
- talking with potential guests (sales) and booking guests,
- ordering supplies
- attention to detail is important
Riversong Lodge Operations Manager: The Operations Manager is responsible for the general running of the lodge, maintenance, directing staff, client interface, guest experience, safety and basic admin. A qualified candidate must possess excellent inter-personal skills. Knowledge with logistics, the backcountry lodge experience, fishing, food service, staffing, hospitality and operations management is an asset. Most importantly, the successful candidate must have the desire and energy to continue to make Riversong Lodge a world class destination. You will experience a tremendous amount of contact working with guests and staff members and be an integral part of resolving problems in all areas of the lodge. The Operations Manager must commit to working appropriate hours and handling stress in a positive, responsible way.
Fishing Guide (3) Riversong Lodge employs both experienced and new fishing guides. A passion for fishing and teaching is required. Our guides have heavy exposure to our guests and must enjoy interacting with people. Guides must have an applicable US Coast Guard License or be able to qualify for one (Remote Waters of Western Alaska License) – we assist you in getting the license. We offer an extremely competitive compensation package. • Mid-May through early September • All five pacific salmon species, rainbow trout, grayling, and northern pike • Both fly fishing and spin fishing • Operate jet boats • Non-guiding days (other than days off) will be spent doing lodge chores • Be service oriented, a good communicator, self motivated and have high ethics • New guides will go through a comprehensive training program at the lodge
Chefs: (2)
A wonderful opportunity for a candidate to achieve gourmet cuisine in a remote wilderness setting in Alaska for exclusive clientele. The ideal candidates should have at least 5 years of culinary experience in a similar position at a fine dining restaurant and a culinary degree is also required. The position demands creativity on a daily basis, ordering, excellent communication skills, menu planning and the ability to maintain the highest of culinary standards. This culinary professional should have knowledge of fine cuisine and all types of culinary techniques as well as traditional recipes, including desserts and basic pastries along with baking bread. This person should also be willing to professionally interact with guests through the occasional cooking class and general socializing. This individual will be responsible for creating the menus according to existing restaurant concept and managing ordering. Ensure the proper handling/storage of all food items in accordance with hotel standards and sanitation/health regulations.
Anchorage Expediter: (1) This position requires:
- ordering equipment for the lodge,
- stocking the air taxi with food and materials for the lodge
- use of car to pick-up items at nearby locations within Anchorage
- communicating with lodge and also the Anchorage office
Riversong Front House Lodge Manager: (2) This candidate is responsible for orderly running of the main lodge. The position requires:
- communication with our Anchorage office
- communication with the air taxi office
- greeting guests as they arrive and depart
- overseeing daily operations at the lodge
- communicating with Chefs, fishing guides, and house staff
- handling requests or complaints from guests
- training new staff
- ensuring that health and safety regulations are followed
- running a bar
- provide meals
- be responsible for stock management
- planning and organizational skills
- decision-making ability
- problem-solving skills
Riversong Housekeeper: (1) Available to a hard-working individual who appreciates cleanliness and attention to detail. Responsible for daily cleaning of rooms and public buildings, main lodge, plus help with serving meals and assist with dishes if needed.
Riversong Dishwashers: (2) Clean and dry breakfast, lunch, and dinner dishes from guests, staff, and chefs. You may also assist chefs in the kitchen along with outside responsibilities to help maintain the grounds as necessary.
Riversong Lodge Assistant: (1) This position must have experience in building maintenance. Use of power tools is required. Knowledge of basic plumbing, electrical and carpentry skills and landscape maintenance are required. Ability to work on small engines and diesel generator a plus.
